Uncontaminated nature in
a splendid, crystal clear, blue sea
|
| The "Zingaro" is
the first nature reserve to have been set up
in Siciliy and takes in a stretch of coast of
about 7 kms. And the mountain chain witch is
a magnificent setting for the steep sliffs.
It is extremely important not only for its splendid
blue, deep, uncontaminated sea, but also for
the abundance of rare and endemic plants (Perpetuino,
Garofanino, , Fiordaliso di Sicilia, Limonio
di Todaro, Palma nana, Orchidea di Branciforti)
and for its fauna (in the Zingaro there nest
and mate at least 39 birds species, mainly birds
of prey including: the Pilgrim falcon, the Windhever,
the Buzzard). |

| The Zingaro is also important
from the archaeological point of view, seeing
that in the Uzzo grotto there was one of the
first prehistoric settlements in Sicily. The
Reserve can only be visited on foot and the
various itineraries, guided by precise directions,
are of rare beauty and fascination. |
